Chelsea determined to sign 24-year-old Bundesliga defender
Chelsea have allegedly joined by Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in the race to land Stuttgart defender Borna Sosa.
The Blues tried to sign the Croatian in the January transfer market but were unsuccessful in the pursuit of the left-back.
And according to Bild’s Christian Falk, Spurs and the Gunners have joined the west London outfit in the hunt.
All three sides would look to capture the 24-year-old in the summer transfer market. Stuttgart knocked back Thomas Tuchel’s side’s approach by slapping a €30 million (£25 million) price tag on his head.
But with the Bundesliga club second from bottom in the division, the elite teams will be circling should the side get relegated.
Dietmar Hamann has tipped him to have a successful career, whether it be at Stamford Bridge or other Premier League club.
He told TribalFootball.com: “I think potentially with [Marcos] Alonso currently being the first choice for Chelsea at the moment.
“There was actually talk of [Sosa] being sold a couple of years back, but he’s come back to life with the arrival of Kalajdzic.
“He crosses the ball as well as anyone around and I think he’s assisted at least half of the goals Kalajdžić has scored this season.
“He’s a danger going forward and he’s very good at defending his own goal as well. I think he’s a very decent player who could do a job in the Premier League and at a club like Chelsea.”

Eintracht Frankfurt wide man Filip Kostic is reportedly one of the players targeted by Chelsea this summer.
A recent report from Fichajes has offered an update on the future of Chelsea. The Premier League giants are prepared to fork out €200 million to sign newer players and compete for the league title as well as the UEFA Champions League. While the priority is to sign new centre-backs and strikers, the club are also looking to sign a wide player.
One of their premier options Marcos Alonso could be set for a move away from Stamford Bridge, amid interest from FC Barcelona. Although Chelsea have not particularly targeted a certain individual, they are keeping tabs on Filip Kostic.
Currently plying his trade for Eintracht Frankfurt, the Serb has been a revelation at the Bundesliga club over the past couple of years. The 29-year-old has transformed himself into one of the most dangerous wide players in Europe, thanks to his ability to whip in crosses into the box.
The former HSV starlet also brings a lot of energy and experience to the table, making him a shrewd option for Chelsea. With Alonso set to leave Stamford Bridge, Kostic could prove to be a wise investment for the club, as coach Thomas Tuchel looks to add competition for Ben Chilwell ahead of the new season.
The Eintracht Frankfurt superstar has enjoyed immense success in the Bundesliga. But the 29-year-old could certainly fancy putting his skills to the test in the Premier League, where his crossing prowess could become even more effective.
Tuchel, with his vast knowledge of German football, will be well aware of Kostic’s powers on the left hand side of the pitch. Luring the Serbian international from Frankfurt, though, could be the trickiest part as Chelsea are not alone in the race to sign the 29-year-old.
Kostic is indeed tracked by other European giants such as Juventus and Tottenham, who are reportedly weighing up a move for the Bundesliga sensation, as former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte looks to shore up his options on the left hand side of the pitch.
Chelsea, though, are keeping their options open by targeting other players in the market. In addition to Kostic, coach Tuchel is closely monitoring the progress of German international David Raum while FC Barcelona outcast Sergino Dest is another alternative.
